  • Salem Grade School Turns 100 Years Old!

    1916 Building

In the late 1800s, children in Salem attended a 2-room wooden building known as Salem Center School. In 1916, a 4-room brick building replaced the wooden structure. The enrollment was less than 100 pupils. The walls of the 1916 building still stand today and continue to anchor the many halls and rooftops of the present day building that securely houses over 950 students.

As we prepare for a 100-year anniversary celebration on April 24, 2016, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., we would appreciate the community’s assistance in gathering items of interest. For example, do you or any of your relatives have old (Salem School or town related) photos from many years past? We are especially interested in pictures and anecdotal information from 1900 to about 1970. If you have information to share, please contact Dr. Eileen Bruton, principal, at 262-843-2356, ext. 411.
