Fourth grade started Forward Testing last week and our team of 4th grade teachers are here to make it fun again this year! They made “smarty pants” with all of the students’ names and have t-shirts they are wearing for every day of testing! They also decorated their hallway bulletin boards, gave students treats every day of testing, and each classroom has a surprise box to open at the end of testing!

The Student Senate was excited to present a check for $1,000 to the Valley of the Kings Animal Sanctuary! This money was collected through Subway lunch sales and the recent Valentine's Day lollipop sale. Mrs. Borndahl, a volunteer with sanctuary, was very thankful for the donation. Thank you to everyone who helped raise this money!

Mrs. Russell's class tested the effect of sound waves on their eardrums using the example of a speaker to a windshield on a car. The students learned that sound waves can break a windshield!

Sixth grade students learned about an upcoming Honor Flight and who is involved. They then had the privilege of making cards for the two gentlemen attending (Mr. Moreno and Mr. Smars). The letters will be given to the two service men to read on the flight to Washington, D.C. Thank you to Mr. Shane Morris and Mr. Dan Zacharias for helping to coordinate the writing campaign for these two soldiers!

Ms. Flynn worked with one of her students to list ways to show how we care about friends, parents, and teachers as part of the Bouncy Program. Bouncy is an evidence-based program to improve prosocial skills, and the students love it!

Have a fun and safe Spring Break! 😎
We will see everyone back at Salem on April 3rd!

Cub Scout Pack 328 had a BLAST at their Culver's Fundraiser this week! They served orders, cleaned up tables and helped wherever they were needed. Thank you to everyone who came out to support them!

Spring Break is usually associated with itineraries, socializing, and traveling — which can wear you out. Maybe what you need is to slow down and decompress by:
Limiting screen time.
Try leaving your phone in the car when you meet a friend for lunch so you can give them your full attention. A small digital detox can pay off big.
Cleaning out your social media accounts. You may have some social media clutter. Spend some time purging what you no longer find valuable.
Resting. One word: naps!
Getting fresh air. There’s something cleansing about being outside, even in the rain or snow.
Exercising. If you can combine exercise with fresh air, all the better.
Organizing. As you organize closets and drawers, find things to sell, donate, trade with a friend, or throw away. A break is a perfect time to purge physical clutter, too.
If you or a loved one experience difficult emotions as you slow down during Spring Break, you’re not alone. If you or a family member would like help finding a mental health care or substance use treatment provider, contact Care Solace, a complimentary and confidential coordination service provided by Salem School District:
Call 888-515-0595. Multilingual support is available 24/7/365.
