Please help us welcome Ms. Kate Flanagan, our new Special Education Compliance Coordinator!
Kate received her undergraduate degree in Physical Education and Health Education from Carthage College. She began working as a Special Education Teacher in 2011 in Kenosha Unified while continuing her education at Carthage, pursuing and completing her Master’s Degree in Special Education and Educational Leadership.
During her time in Kenosha she had the opportunity to work in a variety of academic settings but was focused and dedicated to student social-emotional learning in their EBD setting. She then transitioned to Racine Unified and took on the role of Program Support Teacher and Diagnostician where she led professional development aligned with special education and school improvement plans, mentored and coached teachers on effective classroom strategies as well as conducted diagnostic work associated with special education evaluations.
Upon returning to Kenosha Unified in 2018, she took on her current role of Special Education Case Manager. As a Special Education Case Manager she has had the unique opportunity to work closely and collaboratively with classroom teachers, support staff and administrators to monitor IEP implementation, write initial, annual and reviewed IEPs as well as focus on building strong relationships with staff, students and the surrounding community.
Kate’s work is rooted in the belief that a school community built on positive and impactful relationships where students feel valued, safe and cared for is one that promotes the greatest opportunity and strongest foundation for student growth, engagement and learning.

Mr. Webster was a special guest in Mrs. Sanko’s class to talk about his job as an Orthopedic PA and give some demonstrations! He talked about bones and their importance, the kids learned the name of some bones in the arm and leg, learned about different ways they fix a break, and got to look at real X-Rays and try to guess if they could see a break, or if it was normal!
He demonstrated putting a boot on for a foot or ankle injury, demonstrated a reflex hammer, and put a real cast on his son's arm (which he took off before it hardened!)!

Four 7th graders were chosen to go to the State Capitol for the essays they wrote about democracy. They were able to see the Capitol, tour the Assembly, go up to the observation deck, and walk to the Veterans Museum across the street! Keep up the great work 7th graders!

Students in 5th grade have been working with Ms. Galley to create Book Talk videos. Students chose a book they have read and created a video to convince others to read it too!

A huge thank you to Community State Bank for guiding our 8th graders on a financial journey today using the MyLIFE Essentials program! Students gained an understanding of how to budget finances in real life situations - making a career choice, choosing housing, transportation, groceries, and budgeting for when "fate" throws you unexpected situations, both good and bad!

Mrs. Bruni's class welcomed Mr. Kraak to present about being a Snap-on Lead Test Technician. Students were allowed to try out one of the tools he brought and there were lots of "what a cool job!" comments! Thank you, Mr. Kraak!

Our second grade team wants to remind you that tomorrow is NEON Day!! Wear your brightest clothes to show your spirit!
