First graders in Mrs. Heinberg's class started learning about dominoes and how they can be used in math. To kick off their new unit, students enjoyed playing a math game with a partner. They took turns drawing one domino each and determined the total number of dots. The player with the most dots on their domino kept both dominoes. Whoever had the most dominoes at the end was the winner!

While the Salem School District is a big point of pride in our community, we have financial needs that stem from inflationary pressures and inadequate funding from the state in recent years.
As we work to address these needs, we want to hear from our community! Please take our survey to evaluate the district’s needs, consider possible solutions, and contribute feedback.
This anonymous survey takes approximately eight minutes to complete and will be available through November 4, 2024.

Our 7th and 8th grade STEAM students took on an exciting challenge—designing and racing their very own sail cars! The assignment started with brainstorming and sketching their car designs, followed by using TinkerCad software to bring their ideas to life in a 3D model. After learning how 3D printers work, they printed their cars right here at school. The students then tested and raced their creations, competing in a thrilling tournament to see who built the fastest car. Check out this photo of our top 8th grade racers who placed the highest! 🏎️🏁

Salem Lakes Fire/Rescue visited Salem students this week during Fire Prevention Week! They covered important safety tips like 'Get Out and Stay Out,' choosing a family meeting spot, and feeling doors with the back of your hand. Our students also got to see one of the firefighters put on their gear, helping them feel more comfortable with how firefighters might look or sound during an emergency. 🚒🔥 Thank you, Salem Lakes Fire/Rescue!!

Mr. Johnson's 6th Grade PLTW - Design and Modeling students were tasked with designing a foot orthotic device for a patient with spastic hemiplegia due to cerebral palsy. These pictures show students working through parts of the design process: evaluation and presenting solutions. Students presented to peers the positives and negatives of their orthotic devices and its specific requirements. Students then evaluated all the solutions using a decision matrix and requirements. Keep up the great work!
