Have you signed up to donate at the Red Cross Blood Drive on Monday, April 22nd?
Where: The Salvation Army Wonderland Camp and Conference Center, Sponsored By Salem School,
When: Monday, April 22nd | 9am-2pm
April is National Volunteer Month! The Red Cross depends on the generosity of volunteers to ensure blood products are available when patients need them. Our blood drives and donation centers also depend on our incredible volunteers (you!) every single day. It takes a lot of generous people to ensure blood is on hospital shelves when patients need it. First time donors don’t need to know your blood type to give. You will find out what your blood type is 2-3 weeks after your blood donation.
All who come to give April 8-28 will receive a $10 e-gift card to a merchant of choice. Students at Salem School that have a parent attend and help save lives will receive a “I can help save lives” kick ball from the Red Cross to show they made a difference to someone in need.

On Monday evening we welcomed our Strategic Planning Committee back to Salem for a "Year in Review" event! Members of the committee who worked on developing Salem's Strategic Plan last year got to visit some of our newly renovated spaces and see the plan in action! Stops on the tour included the Project Lead the Way classroom where they learned about new electives, OTUS, and our course guide. They observed students working on robots for our upcoming STEAM event on April 18th, as well as visited our ESports Lounge and the new Discovery Lab to hear more about our attendance, PBIS and Special Education programs. We are excited to continue building for our future here at Salem!

5th graders have been working incredibly hard this quarter on learning how to play the recorder in Mr. Walker's music class. They have worked on how to properly hold the recorder, play different notes, and on playing with correct intonation on several rhythms and songs.
The students in Ms. Schneider's class were practicing a song from the Civil War era called “I am a poor wayfaring stranger” that incorporated several difficult rhythmic patterns they learned about earlier this year. The students practiced both on their own and as a class to prepare the song, then used a program called “Flip Grid” to record and get feedback from Mr. Walker to help them continue to get better in their playing.

Sixth grade students paired up with kindergarten classes to deliver Bunny Bags to thank them for the kind notes they received before testing!
