Bugs, senses, leaves, oh my!🐞🐛 Mrs. Russell’s fourth graders and their kindergarten buddies in Mrs. Simmons/Kastor's class went on a nature walk! The partnerships noted what they saw, heard, and smelled while exploring the landscape at Salem! ☀️😎
On Monday evening we welcomed our Strategic Planning Committee back to Salem for a "Year in Review" event! Members of the committee who worked on developing Salem's Strategic Plan last year got to visit some of our newly renovated spaces and see the plan in action! Stops on the tour included the Project Lead the Way classroom where they learned about new electives, OTUS, and our course guide. They observed students working on robots for our upcoming STEAM event on April 18th, as well as visited our ESports Lounge and the new Discovery Lab to hear more about our attendance, PBIS and Special Education programs. We are excited to continue building for our future here at Salem!

5th graders have been working incredibly hard this quarter on learning how to play the recorder in Mr. Walker's music class. They have worked on how to properly hold the recorder, play different notes, and on playing with correct intonation on several rhythms and songs.
The students in Ms. Schneider's class were practicing a song from the Civil War era called “I am a poor wayfaring stranger” that incorporated several difficult rhythmic patterns they learned about earlier this year. The students practiced both on their own and as a class to prepare the song, then used a program called “Flip Grid” to record and get feedback from Mr. Walker to help them continue to get better in their playing.
Sixth grade students paired up with kindergarten classes to deliver Bunny Bags to thank them for the kind notes they received before testing!
