On Monday, for a UFLI phonics review in Mrs. Bruni's class, students played a Headbanz game to practice reading and writing sentences. One student read the sentence that was on the headband and the student wearing the headband wrote the sentence. Then they both checked it over! What a fun way to review!

4th graders who met their October PBIS goal of no missing work were able to participate in choice rooms! They got to choose between a movie, choice tech time, or an art and board game room! We’re so proud of them!

As a part of their Civics Unit, 8th graders have completed a primary election to narrow the candidate field for 8th grade representatives from 29 down to 15. The 15 students moving forward will be creating additional commercials and advertising materials as well as participating in a debate for the entire 8th grade. The election will take place on November 7th!

Mrs. Culotta's 5K class completed Fire Safety Centers! They colored and cut out their own Fire Helmets, created buildings and houses with Magnatiles, and searched the room for Fire Safety items! 🔥🦸♂️🚒

Lots of learning is happening in Ms. Veium’s kindergarten class! They practiced number writing in their anchor folders during Number Corner, played Spill 5 Beans during math and they all launched Dreambox on their iPads!

7th grade students in Mrs. Potter's Science class went outside to make a food web and decided to "leave it better than they found it!" Lots of trash was cleaned up and some great food webs were created!🌎

"Students first made estimates of how many beans were in the bag, then we read the story Jack and the Beanstalk. Students then worked in small groups to count and sort beans into groups of 10s and if they had ten 10s they made a 100. Throughout the lesson we learned that 100 can be grouped into ten 10s called a hundred. We added all of our work mats up and all together we had 1,159 magic beans!" - Mrs. Bruni and her second grade class

Clock fractions!⏰
Ms. Schneider's 5th grade students got to use a spinner to generate 2 fractions. Then they needed to write down an addition equation with those fractions, and solve! The first player to completely fill all three clocks won the game!

Thank you to all of our Salem families who volunteered at our Sleep in Heavenly Peace Event this past weekend! Our Salem students met new friends, learned some carpentry skills and had a blast doing a good deed! They also got to learn sanding, staining + drilling, and were engaged and working hard! At the end of the event they helped to clean up the warehouse by sweeping, putting away electrical cords and sanders, and helping out wherever they were needed!
Learn more about Sleep in Heavenly Peace here: https://shpbeds.org/chapter/wi-racine-kenosha/
