Ms. Veium's kindergarten class just started a measuring unit in math. Students worked on describing the length of an object and comparing the length of two objects. Students had to estimate and cut yarn to match the length of Ms. Veium's lanyard. Then they compared and wrote inequality statements to show how many students guessed shorter, the same, or longer lengths.

YOU are invited to donate blood February 17th in the South Gym at Salem School! The need for blood is constant, but only 3 percent of the U.S. population donates. By rolling up a sleeve, donors can play a critical role in the treatment of accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease. That’s a pretty big impact for such a simple act! Plus, did you know you can follow your donation as it makes its way to a hospital in the Blood Donor App? You get a mini-physical when you come to give. The Red Cross will check your pulse, blood pressure and hemoglobin levels. All of these details are tracked in the Blood Donor App too, so you can monitor your results over time. Additionally, for a limited time, the Red Cross has expanded its blood testing to include sickle cell trait screening on donations from self-identified African American donors. General Guidelines for Blood Donation: Be in good general heath and feeling well. Weight at least 110 lbs. Have not donated blood in the last 56 days. You don’t need to know your blood type- We need donors of all blood types to ensure a sufficient supply for patients. Donors may be notified of their blood type following their donation when they receive their blood donor card or by creating a profile through the Red Cross Blood Donor App. All who come to give will receive a $10 Amazon.com Gift Card by email. PLUS, they’ll also be automatically entered for a chance to win a trip for two to Florida, including round-trip airfare, a three-night stay at the Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach and $100 voucher for the resort’s Ocean Hai restaurant, plus a $750 gift card for expenses. All students that recruit a blood donor will receive a Red Cross mini pop up lantern to show they helped save lives. On Friday Room 106 had a reward day! Ms. Simmons said, "As a class, if we ALL show our expectations during a situation, we can earn a Purple Panda Cash. When we earn 20, we have a reward day. We chose the reward day as a group at the beginning of the reward term. This time we chose pajama day, combined with our holiday celebration. We watched a video and had some tasty treats!"
