Today, four of our National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) students proudly represented Salem School at the Joint Finance Committee Public Hearing held at State Fair Park in West Allis, WI. The Joint Finance Committee is a group of state legislators who are responsible for shaping the state’s budget — including funding for public education. Accompanied by Dr. King, Mrs. Nicole Hass, Mrs. Fuller, Mrs. Pahl, and Mr. Maurer our students had the opportunity to share their experiences and advocate for the continued support of Wisconsin’s public schools and communities. Mrs. Nicole Hass, School Board Treasurer, opened by sharing the challenges of being a low-revenue district and emphasized that despite that, we operate with great efficiency and innovative strategies committed to our students academic success. Our students then took the floor to testify. Max Miller thanked the committee for their work and spoke about how their support directly impacts programs and teachers at Salem. Cooper Orwig spoke about the honor and responsibility of NJHS and how it helps students learn, lead, and serve their community. Braelynn Peura shared how NJHS students stay engaged with the community through service projects like Feed My Starving Children, Wreaths Across America, and local outreach events. Brooklyn Maurer highlighted the electives, sports, and leadership opportunities that Salem offers — all made possible through essential funding and support. They also had the incredible opportunity to meet and speak with Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson, along with many state representatives — including our own local representative, Amanda Nedweski. We are beyond proud of our students for their leadership, confidence, and Falcon pride. Thank you to the Joint Finance Committee for listening to our student voices and continuing to invest in the future of public education. 💙 #StudentVoices #JointFinanceCommittee #PublicEducationMatters #FalconPride #SalemSchoolFalcons #InvestInEducation

election day april 1
As we approach the April 1st election tomorrow, we want to emphasize just how important it is to get out and vote. Your voice matters. Why Vote? Salem School has had the lowest revenue limit per student among area K-8 districts since 1993. 96% of Wisconsin school districts receive more funding per student than Salem. The 2022 referendum, which included both capital and operational funding, is set to expire—this renewal is only for operational funds to maintain financial stability. Voting Details: Date: Tuesday, April 1 Time: Polls are open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM Find Your Polling Place: myvote.wi.gov Our school is seeking support through a referendum to address critical operational costs. While we’ve worked hard to implement cost-saving measures, such as reducing administrative positions, freezing salaries for certain roles, and exploring partnerships with neighboring districts, these efforts alone are not enough. Here’s a key fact: State funding has not kept pace with rising operational costs, including utilities, staffing, and educational resources. Without additional funding, we face difficult decisions that could impact student programs, staffing, busing, and services. Plan Ahead – Make Your Voice Heard! ✅ Know your polling location ✅ Arrange transportation or childcare if needed ✅ Remind friends, family, and neighbors to vote Polls are open from 7 AM to 8 PM tomorrow. We encourage all voters to carefully review the details of the referendum so you can make an informed decision. www.salem.k12.wi.us/page/salemreferendum2025
