While we’re proud of our successes, the Salem School District is facing the challenges of rising costs, an inequitable state school funding formula, and a lack of state aid to public schools in recent years. We share these challenges with most other school districts statewide. Check out this video to learn more about our operational needs and the proposed solution on the ballot April 1. 📽️

🏫 Last week, Mrs. Christy Weinstock, Salem School Principal, teamed up with the principal from Bristol School, Tom Blair, to present at the WSSCA (Wisconsin School Safety Coordinators Association) Conference. Together, they shared insights on developing effective Emergency Operations Plans in small schools and districts. Their presentation highlighted strategies for building comprehensive safety plans, conducting meaningful safety drills, and providing staff training to ensure every student and staff member feels prepared and protected.
We're proud of their dedication to keeping our schools safe! 👏

Last week in ELA, first graders read Thunder Cake, a heartwarming story about a grandmother helping her granddaughter overcome her fear of thunderstorms—by baking a special cake together!🍰
Ms. Heinberg and Ms. Smid’s classes joined forces to read, discuss, and listen to the story before enjoying their very own "thunder" cake. A sweet and engaging way to make reading come alive! 📖

This month, we’re focusing on Cooperation as our Character Strong theme—“working together to reach shared goals.” Whether in the classroom, at home, or in the community, teamwork helps us succeed!
Families, take a moment to talk about how you cooperate at home. What shared goals do you have, and how do you work together to achieve them?
Cooperation is one of three traits we’re emphasizing this year to help students Be Kind. Through activities and discussions, students will build skills in perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and teamwork.
Let’s make March a month of collaboration and kindness! 💙 View the family newsletter here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nXsCFoi2kHf7AQurqLC3615zg_M-XDmc/view?usp=drive_link
