"Students first made estimates of how many beans were in the bag, then we read the story Jack and the Beanstalk. Students then worked in small groups to count and sort beans into groups of 10s and if they had ten 10s they made a 100. Throughout the lesson we learned that 100 can be grouped into ten 10s called a hundred. We added all of our work mats up and all together we had 1,159 magic beans!" - Mrs. Bruni and her second grade class

Clock fractions!⏰ Ms. Schneider's 5th grade students got to use a spinner to generate 2 fractions. Then they needed to write down an addition equation with those fractions, and solve! The first player to completely fill all three clocks won the game!

As part of a community service project, students in 6th grade wrote letters to 2 veterans for an upcoming Honor Flight! Both men served in the Vietnam War. The letters will be read on the flight home from Washington, D.C.

Thank you to all of our Salem families who volunteered at our Sleep in Heavenly Peace Event this past weekend! Our Salem students met new friends, learned some carpentry skills and had a blast doing a good deed! They also got to learn sanding, staining + drilling, and were engaged and working hard! At the end of the event they helped to clean up the warehouse by sweeping, putting away electrical cords and sanders, and helping out wherever they were needed! It was the perfect day for Mrs. Russell's fourth grade class to cozy up by a virtual fire with their stuffed animals and flashlights to read some good books!

Yesterday our 8th grade Rocket League team had its first victory over another middle school team, the Cardinal Legends. The match was best out of five and our team won the first three games with the third match going into overtime. Congratulations to our 8th grade boys on their victory and proudly representing Salem school in Esports!

Mrs. Infusino's 6th Grade Social Studies classes drew cave art and demonstrated teamwork while practicing the ways of the people in Paleolithic and Neolithic Eras. Check out their work!

Sixth grade science classes practiced using a safe method of observing a partial solar eclipse. Students created a pinhole projector to see a projected image of the sun. Classes took advantage of the sunny weather on Wednesday to use this method of solar observation. We can only hope there will be a break in the predicted cloudy skies on Saturday!

We are so excited to announce that Cereal Dominoes Drive begins today!! Student Senate is partnering with the Sharing Center to collect cereal donations! The boxes of cereal that are donated will be lined up like dominoes in a path around the school. The student who brings in the most boxes of cereal will be able to push the first box of cereal to start the path! Students can bring in cereal boxes to their homerooms from October 9th to 25th.
